This last Thursday, April 7th, the internet was all in an uproar because of the trailer for Star Wars: Rogue One. It has a large cast and looks fantastic. However, because it has a female lead, scores of idiots crawled out of the woodwork to say things like this:
What is the big deal with a female leading the charge against the bad guys? If a girl saves the day, that doesn’t make it any less of a victory. The days are long gone when women could only be represented as damsels in distress or seductive temptresses.
As for it not being original, both the original and prequel trilogies had a male-dominated cast.
Think about it. Mon Mothma. Leia. Padme. Zam Wesell. Queen Jamillia.
Now think again. Luke. Han. Chewie. Boba Fett. Jango Fett. 90% of the Jedi. Obi-Wan. Yoda. Wedge. Biggs. Vader. Palpatine. Every damn stormtrooper. The list goes on and on.
Women have been underrepresented in Star Wars until The Force Awakens. Who doesn’t like seeing a beautiful woman kicking ass all over the galaxy?
